Saturday April 18, 2026 | 2:00 – 4:00pm
Location: RU House at Colonels Row, Building #404B on Governors Island (map)
Ferry information | Video directions
Free Workshop
Limited to 12 participants. RSVP required.
In this hands-on workshop led by Hayley Ferber (2023 & 2024 RU curator alum), participants will discover how everyday materials can be transformed into beautiful, functional books through creative bookbinding with recycled elements.
Using items such as scrap paper, discarded packaging, and found materials, participants will learn simple binding techniques to construct unique handmade books. Through cutting, folding, and stitching, students will give new life to overlooked materials while exploring the expressive possibilities of sustainable book arts.
All levels are welcome. Materials are provided and participants will leave with their own one-of-a-kind handmade book.
Connective Threads brings together 15 artists working across diverse textile processes— sewing, quilting, weaving, and sculptural assemblage among others—to explore connection as both material structure and social metaphor. Spanning two- and three-dimensional works, and incorporating both traditional fibers and unexpected materials, the exhibition highlights the tactile languages through which artists bind, layer, stitch, and interlace forms into a cohesive whole.
Join us for the opening reception of Connective Threads!

In a world that feels increasingly overstimulated and demanding, Breathe offers a space for serenity. Featuring work by members of the New York Artists Circle, the exhibition explores breath not only as a fundamental human necessity, but as an invitation to pause, recenter and find calm.
The artists approach this theme from multiple perspectives. Some focus on the physical act of breathing—its rhythm, vulnerability, and sustaining force—while others employ breath as a metaphor for stillness, resilience, clarity, and the act of claiming space in an often overwhelming world. Together, these works invite viewers to step away from the noise, take a deep breath, and reconnect with a sense of peace, presence, and inner balance.
Breathe will be presented both in person at Westbeth Gallery and online on the New York Artists Circle website (NYartistscircle.com). The in-person exhibition includes an opening reception and a public artist talk.

How does calmness foster creativity? Lee Krasner said “With Jackson there was quiet solitude. Just to sit and look at the landscape. An inner quietness. After dinner, to sit on the back porch and look at the light.”

Lichtundfire is pleased to announce and welcome all to the Opening Reception of THESEUS’s CRAFT TheParadox of the Real, co-curated by independent curator Hayley Ferber and Lichtundfire's gallery director Priska Juschka. The exhibition is a conceptual continuation of the previous two exhibitions, interlaced with the myth of Ariadne, and based on the character of her interim lover, Theseus, per the myth- the son of King Aegeus of Athens.
Also known as the Ship (craft) of Theseus, it presents a paradox and a philosophical thought experiment that questions whether an object remains the same object after all of its original components have been replaced over time. According to the myth, the legendary trireme, a three-rowed galley from which the Cretan Princess Ariadne and Theseus departed Crete after he had slain his half-brother, a dangerous, human-eating Minotaur, was preserved by the Athenians.

New York City, NY - Pulsing Through is the culmination of a 3 month Curatorial Intensive bringing together 5 artists to curate a group exhibition. Working across painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, collage, and printmaking, the 18 artists in Pulsing Through cross the boundary between self and world, inner and outer, body and soul. Their works trace encounters with tender bodies and ghostly figures, moving between presence and absence, and revealing memories that hover just beneath the surface.
Curatorial Intensive: From Concept to Exhibition, co-led by Hayley Ferber and Lu Solano in partnership with Paradice Palase, provided a hands-on opportunity for artists to explore the practical and conceptual foundations of curating an exhibition. Designed to demystify the curatorial process, this program emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and creative vision—guiding participants from the initial idea to a fully realized gallery presentation.
Paradice Palase: Paradice Palase strives to democratize the contemporary art ecosystem for both creators and patrons by offering career-forward mentoring, programming, and resources. We connect our artist network to their peers, to industry professionals, to art business & artist development resources, and to external opportunities. We also curate presentations through partnerships with like-minded creative organizations. Past partners have included NADA, Future Fair, The Other Art Fair, Uprise Art, and House of Yes. In 2024 we launched a Residency Fellowship in partnership with ChaNorth (Pine Plains, NY) awarded to one active member per year. www.paradicepalase.com
All Street Gallery: All Street Gallery is a community-oriented gallery and multimedia art collective holding space for alternative exhibitions, experimental productions, and creative gatherings. www.allstnyc.com
Curatorial Intensive: From Concept to Exhibition offers a hands-on opportunity for artists to explore the practical and conceptual foundations of curating an exhibition. Designed to demystify the curatorial process, this program emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and creative vision—guiding participants from the initial idea to a fully realized gallery presentation.
Throughout the intensive, each participant will propose 3–4 artists whose work they believe merits exhibition. Working in cohorts, participants will engage in thoughtful dialogue and group decision-making to curate a cohesive body of work, supported by a unifying curatorial statement.
Led by experienced curators, biweekly over the course of 3 months, the intensive provides a detailed framework and timeline to navigate every stage of the exhibition process: artist selection, promotional strategies, artwork drop-off, installation logistics, special events, deinstallation, and artwork pickup. This structure empowers participants with the organizational tools and professional insight needed to execute a successful exhibition culminating in a physical exhibit at an NYC location to be announced.

Save the date for the opening reception of my first solo exhibition, Found At Sea 🌊
✨Friday, September 19 from 6-9pm
✨Yashar Gallery, 276 Greenpoint Ave, building 8, ground floor, Brooklyn, NY
My artistic practice explores the symbolic language of maritime culture, where sea life, ships, and cartography become metaphors for resilience, memory, and transformation. I create artist books, cyanotypes, and paintings inspired by seascapes and folklore. These works function as tactile compendiums of imagined voyages and personal mythologies, drawing from the aesthetics of logbooks, weathered maps, and archival artifacts. Through traditional crafts, I examine the stories we carry and how they are mapped across both internal and collective histories, inviting reflection on the shifting nature of journey and self.

PERFECT IMPERFECT
The Transience of Things
Concept and Curation by Hayley Ferber and Priska Juschka
Exhibition Dates: August 7 – August 28, 2024
OPENING RECEPTION:
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7 | 6 – 8 PM
Co-curated by independent curator Hayley Ferber and Lichtundfire’s gallery director Priska Juschka, the exhibition seeks to widen the concept of carefully curated group exhibition by featuring visual relationships on a numerically larger scale as part of LICHTUNDFIREcuratorial.
Based upon an Open Call, PERFECT IMPERFECT, with works in various media, painting, photography, sculpture, works on paper and mixed media, is inspired by the profound aesthetics of the philosophical practice and world view of the Japanese Wabi-Sabi.
Taken from the Japanese words wabi, which translates to less is more, and sabi, which means attentive melancholy, Wabi-Sabi refers to an awareness of the transient nature of all things and to a corresponding pleasure in all that bears the mark of impermanence.
This exhibition explores the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete – moving beyond the conventional idea of the pursuit of perfection and into the realm of a deliberate aesthetic and artistic decision of leaving a work, its composition, medium, materials, surface a.o. in a way that is considered not entirely fully executed, finished, polished, smooth or otherwise completed to perfection.
AlterWork Studios invites you to view “Works on/with/about Paper”. Stop in to view the work of 26 artists… let us explore how they use paper not only as a substrate but as a medium and a subject matter.

A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to present Wish You Were Here: The Second Best Time Is Now, the 2024 edition of its annual Postcard Show. Each year, hundreds of artists come together to support A.I.R. by donating a postcard-sized work in any medium. Each original work is sold for $45 and all proceeds go to benefit A.I.R. and its mission to advance the work of women and non-binary artists. This year’s exhibition theme focuses on the climate crisis. The exhibition borrows its title from a Chinese Proverb: “The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now.”
Climate activists are pursuing transformational change with a clear and urgent message: act now to protect people and save our planet from the worst impacts of the climate crisis. Addressing the environmental crisis requires collaboration, creativity, and positive solutions on the part of citizens working in other fields, including artists.
Artists’ activism has taken many forms, from posters and demonstrations to radical actions and fundraising. Many of the postcards in the exhibition explore the intersection of gender and the environment. As Katherine Wilkinson writes in The New York Times, “Climate change is a collective problem but its burdens—displacement, homelessness, poverty, sexual violence, disease—weigh more heavily on women and girls.”
